On SAT JUN22-02 Nygård Park was officially opened in Deloraine, MB by fashion mogul Peter Nygård & his mother Mrs. Hilkka Nygård. The park, constructed in honour of the Nygård family's first hometown in Canada, also pays homage to the people of Deloraine who welcomed the Nygård family to this hospitable South Western prairie community in 1952.

"The park is dedicated to the people of Deloraine for so warmly & graciously welcoming our family to Canada from our native Finland", says Peter Nygård, Founder & Chairman of Nygård International on the development of Nygård Park. "This is where our rags-to-riches story began. My mother keeps a piece of the wallpaper from the converted coal shed we lived in to remind us of how far we've come", Nygård continues.

Festivities during the park opening included a Parade featuring Peter Nygård as Parade Marshall & the highlight of the day was a Nygård Fashion Show in the Park. Joining Peter Nygård & his mother was his sister Liisa & his daughter Åliå, the residents of Deloraine plus special guests supermodel Beverly Johnson - the first African American Vogue magazine covergirl & feature model of Nygård's own N-Magazine. Nygård had also recruited 20 local women who debuted Nygård fashions in the show!
