Dear Peter !
Thank you for your e-mail 'We stand United with America', pertaining to the terrorist attack on the
11 th of September. The text was very touching.
The whole world has been shocked. It is still very hard to realize what has
happened and what will the consequences be.. We share the sorrow of the American people.
Yours,
Suvi Lindén

We in Canada cannot tolerate any type of Terrorism, and it is wonderful to see people like yourself dedicate resources and fly the American Flag for support. My heart goes out to all of the world who lost a loved one in the WTC attacks, or the attacks in Washington. It was devasting to them, and hopefully, the world will come together, and let these terrorists know that it has to stop now.
|
It is now almost 10 months after the attacks in New York and Washington DC. As a New Yorker, I struggle with a terrible fear each day. It is hard to find someone here who was not touched personally by the loss of a friend, family member or friend of a friend. But, we are resiliant, and will not be bullied by terrorists even with the great loss the whole world has felt. With the words of encouragement and support from our friends and neighbors we will continue to fight terrorism, while at the same time acknowledging that friendship and support from friends is alone a great way to begin in the fight to win against evil. Thank you for your commitment and kind words, they still now and forever will bring tears to my eyes. Thank you again, D.R.

Mr Nygård, Congrats on your award, I am very proud of you. You are such a generous man. May God continue to richly bless you in all aspect of your life Much love and congrats again. Golden Girl Pauline Davis-Thompson

Dear Peter: Thank you for being the leader in all this gratitude to America. I wanted to do something at the time but didn't know how to go about it. I have however set aside a special time each day for prayer and ask our blessed Mother to be there to help us through and deal with the evil that seems to be all around us, Iwill pray for you as well for the great leadership you have shown. I hope one day to come back to the USA and to my profession of nursing and perhaps I may be lucky enough to meet you then Peter. I have always been a person who has never been afraid to stand for that in which I believe and I admire that quality in others . Bless you Peter. Barbara Etchison

Dear Peter, I read your editorial for the first time this morning. I have always felt that the United States and Canada enjoyed a special closeness and now knowing that there are people like you supporting us - I believe it even more. I cried when I read it. Thank you so much for your words and your thoughts. I am a student at school making a career change and going into the fashion business. You have a new and forever fan in me from now on, and I will order and wear your clothes proudly. My heart will always be heavy for the disaster and attack on mankind on Sept. 11th. My prayers are with those most closely affected by this evil.My mind cannot comprehend the horror that has befallen our neihgbours.I am not what some would term a religious person but I do beleive God is heartbroken to see such cruelty and lack of love for each other and He was very busy that day keeping the numbers down and helping the people in the very midst of this evil to stay calm. It amazes me that there was very little commotion on the planes, that passengers saw the ulitimate goal of the terrosists and still stayed calm and united and that our loses were far less than they should have been.May peace be won and our leaders use wisdom and prayer to stamp out this evil.

Mr. Nygård,
In today’s challenging times now more then ever ‘leadership’ is necessary.
What a pleasure it is to be associated with yourself, both personally and corporately, someone who ‘leads by example’. Yes, we do live on a ‘small planet’ and true leaders recognize this and take appropriate action supported by those whom have empowered them. We’re fortunate that President Bush is ‘focused’ and yet morally & ethically grounded in pursuit of ‘our freedoms’. Special thanks should be extended to individuals such as yourself who ‘walk the talk’ and provide visual reminders such as those HUGE flags outside your manufacturing facilities. While leaders aren’t often enough appropriately recognized for their contributions it should comfort them that ‘they are appreciated’ and ‘history will remember’. Wishing you & your ‘world-wide’ family a Happy, Holiday Season & Praying that the New Year will bring resolution and PEACE!
Respectfully, Al Alan Dewar Geo. H. Young & Co, Manager of Customs Operations

I´m proud of the courage of the American people, especially the New Yorkers. President Bush has also suprised me with his determination and strength to fight against terrorism. I´m especially proud of Mr. Nygård, and that he was born in Finland, my home country. Mr. Nygård´s campaign is giving new hope that the world is still a great place to live. Dear Peter,
I work in a division of your company. The Jay Set in Miramichi. I could not be prouder to be a part of your team! I believe your words have given a lot of people hope that we can all Stand United. I believe we are all the same in God's eyes. If more people would believe that then there would be no more killing because of hatred for another race or religion. EVERYONE should take a good look at how they treat others and learn that we are all the same inside and it doesn't matter what kind of God you worship just as long as you realize that in every religion God loves us ALL!

Dear Mr Nygard Sir, My wife is a regular customer of yours, I just happened to have passed through the e-mail and was very touched by your words Sir! I drive by one or two of your large facilities here in Winnipeg. Each time I pass by , I remark to my family that It makes me feel great to have a person such as you in our city who is NOT affraid to fly the USA flag. One day as I drove byour Inkster store and saw the HUGE USA flag slowly blowing in the westerly winds and heard on the radio at the same time the song from Diamond Rio called "ONE More Day". I shed tears like I was a child all over again, and my 7yr old son said "Dad, why are you crying?" I said "I was happy that we still have people on earth like Mr. Bush and Mr Nygard" Thank You SIR, Thank You very much. Keep those flags in Winnipeg Blowing and blowing, Kevin F Williams Winnipeg Manitoba

I completely agree with your campaign and I am sure that the majority of western people will behave the same way as me.
If everyone is totally involved, the terrorists will find it difficult to perpetrate their attacks, but if it is not total , the terrorists not only will have the possibility to find always new recruits among these populations, but will also have better possibility to hide. I think therefore that an important priority must be to understand how much everyone's involvement level against terrorism is, and to find the way to increase involvement. with Regards, Marini & Cecconi

My husband and I were on vacation in Canada at the time of the terrorist attack. We will never forget the kindness, compassion and support of the Canadian people in both Ontario and Quebec. It was extremely stressful for us to be out of the United States, away from family, friends and fellow Americans, and we are so grateful that if we had to be somewhere at that time, it was with our Canadian friends. Words cannot express our gratitude and thanks for your support. John and Gail Grigg

As an American living in Toronto, I thank you Canada and Mr Nygard for your inspiring words and support. We must never forget what happened on Sept. 11th. There unfortunately will be more lives lost in this fight of good vs. evil, and in the memory of those lost and those who will be lost in the fight, we must show our vocal support so that their deaths may not have been in vain. GOD BLESS AMERICA AND ALL MANKIND. Judie

Thank you for your kind words.
US citizens are generally peace loving people who have historically opened our arms to people of all types of races, religions and creeds. We will continue to be a beacon of hope, justice, freedom and democracy. We are just as united in keeping our peaceful disposition as well as our free and tolerant loving way of life as we are in stopping terrorism. We stand resolute with our President -- the highest approval rating ever recorded for a US President -- and understand that this is neither a war against Muslims or blood thirsty revenge. Still, we are not about to allow terror to fundamentally change our way of life -- we must respond quickly and appropriately.
Thanks Again, PAUL

Dear Peter,
Thank-you for sending this to me. What differentiated your message from the others I received was the fact that you took the time to put the message into context. Those unaware that it was originally broadcast in 1973 would have a hard time understanding why Gordon's references are so dated (even though the underlying message is timeless).
It may interest you to know that I actually remember hearing the original broadcast. I was in the car with my father listening to Gordon Sinclair (my dad was a big fan of the man). This was in the Nixon era, highlighted by the oil embargo and rising inflation. America and the rest of the Western world were being ransomed by OPEC in the form of sky-rocketing oil prices - the economy was suffering.
Gordon Sinclair launched into his broadcast with the Battle Hymn of the Republic playing in the background. He was an inspiring speaker and as the broadcast continued, both his delivery and the background music swelled in volume and emotion. I can tell you, it made quite an impression on me. I was proud to be a neighbour, and I was proud that it was a Canadian who had spoken so eloquently about our friends south of the border!

Dear Mr Nygard, Incident on 911 is indeed a horrible tragedy that anyone can imagine, and I couldn't find any words to express my feeling on such a crime; but can only wish, and pray to our neigbour; and the world leaders to take time to make the needful decisions as to how to manage condemn and prevent such serious crime to the best of all human in this world. Just wanted to say thanks to you and so many commercial sites on the internet for stopping to remember our friends, the Americans and all whose families were so devastated by what happened there. My own daughter lives 30 miles from the disaster area with many trips to her head office in New York City near the World Trade Centre, each month. Ten people did not come home that night to her own small community of 3000. Thank you.

Thanks for the message. These are most trying times for our dear neightbors, the American people. The current situation is most overwhelming but Americans have the resources and the faith to overcome just as they have so many times before. I have been glued to the elevision set since this most horrific event evolved. As I sat in gracious peace on my third floor deck overlooking a wonderful nature reserve, the sun shining down and a gentle breeze blowing, I gave some very deep thought as to what I could or would do in in some small way to contribute as a citizen of Canda and the world to help in any way I could.
The best and most immediate thing I can thinkof is to contact my Liberal Member and Parliament and also the Opposition Leaders (such as they are) and express my outrage as to how easy it is for these people to get into Canada and slip into the States to spread their untold grief. We must do everything we can to wipe out these vermin and it will take worldwide co-operation. Long Live Democrcy.

You have no idea how much your email has meant to me and to the other associates in Milliken's NY office.
As you probably know, our office is in a location that allowed for a clear view down 6th Ave. of the WTC buildings. Many of our associates saw the collapse of the 2 towers and most everyone in the building knows of someone who has either been killed in this tragedy or persons that are currently being reported as missing.
I live in the neighbor where this occurred and have witnessed sights that will stay with me for a lifetime. Such a pointless attack can never be truly understood but I continue to believe that mankind is basically good and that all things - however horrific - can be overcome.
Many of your associates have contacted me to ask how the Milliken group is doing and to offer their support and condolences. The partnership that our 2 companies has is strong and the compassion that your incredible organization has shown will not be forgotten. Again, thank you for your kind words and thoughts.
Best regards, E.C. Robinson, III

I wanted to express my gratitude for the email I received from your company. It is nice to know that we are receiving support from our neighbors. I have friends that live in Canada and one of them forwarded this to me. We will unite as a people and continue to be strong as a people. But without the support of people like you, we cannot win this battle and will continue to be the target. Sending a message that we will not tolerate this, not as a country, but as a world, we will help to keep other countries from being the target. With the kind of support you have given us, it would not surprise me that your company is very successful. Thanks again. Have a wonderful and safe week.

Thank you for the attached editorial. It is always nice to hear positive things about our country. Thank you for your leadership at a time of indescribable anguish experienced by our American friends and by those of us who believe that these abominable acts are an assault on all humanity. As Prime Minister Chretien said Friday, the silence of your friends at a moment of great tragedy is louder than the voice of your enemy. You are not silent. Your message of support and respect for the American people is an unequivocal expression of the feelings of many Canadians and other friends throughout the world.

This tragedy has touched me close to home in Dallas Texas, my boss lost his brother in the AA flight 77 that hit the pentagon. Why does one think it can never happen to them or ones close to them?
I am a Canadian and proud of the support and prays Canada has given. recently became a naturalized American - I have to tell you I am proud of the way this country pulls together. It made me proud that I pledged allegiance to the flag.
God Bless America and those we have lost and God Bless the rest of our world for their support, together we will become strong once more.

Thank you Nygard for taking this stand. I too hope that when our neighbors are back on their feet that they will feel that Canada and Canadians supported and helped them where ever possible. I have felt deeply touched by the efforts and the sorrows, the frustration and the trying to make sense out of things. I find it very sad that people with the resources to make a difference in some of the poor nations of the world use those resources to hurt others rather than help the poor and hurting people of these nations and causes which they support.
Thanks again for your comments. Eva Scott

We, in France, wouldn't be free today without America's support during World War II. And we support American people in those terrible moments, while they don't even know how many children they lost, neither even the name of those lost children.
What we saw on last Tuesday should have never happened, and this is terribly shocking to realize that a few persons, a few beasts can be fanatized enough to sacrifice their own life together with life of thousands innocent persons. This Tuesday, the Devil has come down to our Earth. Let's believe in God, only His love can help us to fight the Beast, everywhere it hides.
Mothers, fathers, sons, daughters, friends, husbands, wives, brothers and sisters, go on crying, but stay strong !! your beloved have passed on the Other Side, deads don't suffer anymore and now they rest in peace.
Every citizen of Earth must keep the Hope deep inside the eart, and continue to build a better world for everyone.
God bless America God bless goodwill men

I am so deeply touched by your words. I am an American, married to a Canadian. I have lived in Canada for 14 years and have repeatedly heard my country bashed by Canadians. I hold my head high and couldn't be prouder of the fact that I am an American. I know what my nation stands for--peace, opportunity and freedom for all. Our dream is for world peace, for other nations to live as free as we do in North America. Our dream is real--our dream is consuming. I type these words with tears in my eyes. What is so beautiful in our lives is denied by other nations in our world and I feel for their people. I thank you for your kind words. My hope in the wake of Tuesday's tragic events is that terrorism will be brought down and that the free nations of the world unite in the quest for freedom for ALL!
Again, I thank you. Debbie McKenzie

Thank you so much for those words - as an ex-pat American living in Calgary, you can imagine my anguish. (As a matter of fact, I made several purchases at one of your stores today - now, et's see if I manage to board my airplane.) I intend to display my flag tomorrow, during the nation day of mourning - I hope others in Canada do the same.

Tell Peter that I agree completely and that I am proud of him for taking the time to make his thoughts known so eloquently. The attack on America was an attack on each and every one of us and we need to do all we can to come to the aid of our friends and neighbours next door.
